Interview: The Importance of LBQ+ Rights

Life-altering violence and discrimination confronted by lesbian, bisexual, and queer women (LBQ+) rarely take center stage. LGBT reports rarely mention laws restricting women from owning or inheriting land, and in most women’s rights research, it’s straight women who seem to be interviewed. This gap in LBQ+ documentation is often dubbed “lesbian invisibility.” For a new Human Rights Watch report “This Is Why We Became Activists,” Erin Kilbride launched an investigation across 26 countries, asking LBQ+ activists and community leaders about the toughest issues they face. Kristen Sibbald speaks with Kilbride about her findings.
